The Service Head of the Yaounde Emergency Centre, where the former Indomitable lion is currently admitted, welcomed government officials this morning, he indicated that health officials are now focused on stabilising the patient before his evacuation.
Following the attack, high personalities, friends, family, fans and the international community have been sending in messages of love and good wishes to the 40-year old one time Indomitable Lions Captain.
All visits to the patient have been prohibited, in the meantime preparations for his evacuation is heating up, some say he will be leaving in the next few hours to Europe in order to benefit from a more adequate health treatment.
Rigobert Song Bahanag fondly called “Manyang” is one of the few celebrated football players that spanned over a decade in the Cameroon Football team. Song played in the 1994, 1998, and 2002 World Cups.
In 2006 African Cup of Nations, Rigobert became the most capped player in Cameroon history and counts a total of 103 international appearances.
He is one of the longest serving captains in Cameroon’s national football team.
On the international scene, Prior to joining Galatasaray in 2004, Song played for Metz, Salernitana, Liverpool, West Ham, Cologne, and RC Lens.
Apart from Zinedine Zidane, Song is the only player to have been sent off in two different World Cups, against Brazil in USA 94 and against Chile in France 98. He also holds the record as youngest player ever to be sent off in a world cup, aged 17 in the 1994 world cup.
